Reindustrialization Team presented 2003 Phoenix Award

The ETTP Reindustrialization Team has been awarded EPA’s prestigious 2003 Phoenix Award for excellence in brownfields development. Shown here accepting the award at the Brownfields 2003 conference in Portland, Oregon on October 29 are, from left, Larry Clark, executive director for Assets Utilization, DOE-ORO; Robert Brown, chief executive officer, DOE-ORO; Jimmy Palmer, regional administrator, EPA Region 4; and Bill Biloski, reindustrialization manager for Bechtel Jacobs Co LLC.

The Phoenix Award is given to individuals or groups who are working to solve the critical environmental challenges of transforming abandoned industrial areas into productive new sites.

The Team also won Best of Show for its poster illustrating the history and transformation of ETTP, entitled “Growing a Greener America: The Path to Renewal.” The exhibit was judged from a field of over 80 exhibits by a jury panel of experts.

Mr Ken Yager, Roane County Mayor, hosted a ceremony at the ETTP Overlook on November 5 to share the Phoenix Award with the community. Also displayed at the event was the award-winning poster. Representatives from the federal offices of Rep. Zach Wamp, Rep. John Duncan, Sen. Bill Frist, and Sen. Lamar Alexander, all voiced their support for the program. Several state and local government officials were also in attendance.
