The Oak Ridge National Recycle Center

Leasing at ETTP gives TORNRC the room it needs for its "everything under one roof" approach to electronics recycling.
Background
The Oak Ridge National Recycle Center (TORNRC) operates The National Electronics Recycle Facility at East Tennessee Technology Park’s (ETTP) Heritage Center. TORNRC is leasing its facility space through the DOE Oak Ridge Reindustrialization Program, which is making formerly used government buildings, equipment, and materials available to private sector businesses. These businesses benefit from favorable lease terms, an excellent location, and the availability of a highly skilled workforce.

About the Company
TORNRC is dedicated to presenting solutions to the growing problem of computer and electronics components being discarded in landfills. The company got its start with a grant from DOE and became profitable within its first year of operation. Today, most items handled by the Center come from private businesses. Equipment that cannot be reconditioned and resold is dismantled, with the metal, glass, and plastic components sold to materials recyclers.

The company accepts computers and peripherals as well as copy machines, barcode equipment, fax machines, and a variety of other equipment. In addition to selling items on contract to large businesses and government agencies, TORNRC operates an easily accessible retail outlet at Heritage Center that sells to individuals looking for quality refurbished computer equipment, complete with warranty and technical support.
